If you don't have this plan, you should consider it. The Sitka/rosewood guitar is probably the best wounding instrument I've built.
It was my first OLF SJ.
The all koa turned out great, but because it is a lefty, I really can't play it well enough to know how it sounds. The top seems a little stiff to me - perhaps over braced or too thick.
It has nice tone, well balance and long sustain, but it is a bit quiet.
I'm so glad I'm going to the Somogyi course.

I'm thinking I should do something about that wire.

WOW WOW WOW! Great job Steve, love them both, when i read what you wrote, it gave me a lot of hope for what's on my bench now!

A venitian and a florentine cutaway that are really well made, very nice combos, excellent craftmanship my friend!

Top notch!

Bruce,
I am using water based CrystaLac. The koa is satin, the rosewood gloss.

Too funny. Thanks for that, but let's be honest.

None of us could quit, that's not an available option.

They are both sweet but the Koa makes me want to learn to play lefty.

Excellent, Steve...I like the details. How was the Chrystalac to work with?

Don't fret about the sound...opening up is an unpredictable variable...you'll just have to play the snot out of it for a few weeks/months.

BTW...I'm finishing my second OLF-SJ. I was also impressed with the sound, and am anxious to compare the 2nd (Lutz/Cuban Mahog) to the first (Euro/WFB).

Very nice Steve. They both are excellant!!
My next guitar is going to be a SJ from the same plans.
I hope I can do as well as these two!
I haven't decided
whether to do a cutaway but I really like your Venetian so I just might.
I really like the SJ shape.Congrats on these two beauts ! DaveAndy39097.7164930556

Superb job on those SJs Steve, it's not a guitar size I've ever built, always been happy with the OOO and smaller. I think I may just have to get the plans though, not sure about cases this side of the pond though.

Hey Steve;
NICE work! I've been reluctant to try a Florentine cutaway on my jumbo design, but yours has convinced me it can look very good.
Thanks for the pics.

Thanks, I thought you might like a couple of pictures of the cutaway.
Excellent, Steve...I like the details. How was the Chrystalac to work with?
I posted a review on it here. I like it, better than KTM9, but I'd love to get a second opinion from someone that is familiar with KTM9.

Nice job Steve. Great choice in materials and a great execution. I've got a set of OLF SJ plans on the drawing board and am looking forward to getting down to construction. Hope mine comes out as well as yours.

I am rather frustrated with that little error.

The worst part of it is, I can't even play it.
