Many post have stated that the L-00 was built very light which adds to the desired sound of the guitar. QUESTION: What do you do to build the L-00 light. I will be using Hondouran Mahog. b/s, Ital. Alpine or Addi top, 1/4" primo addi bracing. How do you lighten yours? Thickness of b/s and or top? Narrower or lower bracing? BTW, I came upon the following info researching the L-00. Introduced between '29 and'32 but first catalog appearance '32-list price $25-this is not a cheap guitar. $25 in this era was a chunk of money. 'Cheap' has been used to describe the guitar $5-Was there another series or ? that was sold for $? '33 price $27.50 '41 prices, $36.75 for sunburst and $42 for notural '45 L-00 discontinued |

I have read a few discussions about what the "L" stood for. Some would be quick to point out that the high end arch tops were also designated with an "L" prefix, and are certainly not learner or entry level guitars. Others just throw their hands up in the air, shrug their shoulders and admit that there doesn't seem to be an obvious reason behind the "L" - it just is... Then there is the Nick Lucas model... What is your source, and how much confidence do you have in it? I would agree that the L-00 was a "L"ess expensive than some of the other models. ![]() BTW, I really like the looks of your L-00. Very inspired. Love to hear it. |

Nice reads Hesh. I have a download of the first, but not the other 2. Thanks. I'm a big L-00 fan. The Martin 00's are nice too, but there seems to be something special about the L-00's. I intend to build one of each - some day. But I can't seem to get off go right now. (Did that convey the frustration I'm having?) Bob - I like the Hog /Adi combination idea. If/when I build my L-00 - that will be my choice. Hesh did offer an answer to your question - and then my offhand observations were not anywhere close to your topic (sorry) so... Let me attempt to steer us back to your original question - cause I'd like to add to it. "QUESTION: What do you do to build the L-00 light. I will be using Hondouran Mahog. b/s, Ital. Alpine or Addi top, 1/4" primo addi bracing. How do you lighten yours? Thickness of b/s and or top? Narrower or lower bracing?" Is the idea of building "light" dealing mainly (or exclusively) with the top and how the top is braced? B/S's are incidental or insignificant? I've heard things like: heavy neck = greater sustain; and heavy/thicker B/S's = better reflection of the top and more projection. |
