I have a few technical questions for all you guys making videos online. First off, I have two good recording mics but can't use them because when I use a "y" plug to plug them in my video camera, it only records on one side. Any idea how to remedy this?

Second, I'm trying to record my Schramm guitar but am not happy with the results. It sounds very electronic when recorded through my video-camera. Any tips for recording acoustic guitar?

Third, once I have the video, what's the best format and size to display on the web? I can't get my filesize below about 3.3 MB. What's the best format and compression for the web?

For the little video I made, I just used my digital camera in the video mode with the built in mic. I'm sure it's a pretty cheesy mic but it worked ok. The camera was just sitting in front of me about 4 feet away from the guitar and the sound level was just about right.
When I record just music I use a Rode large diaphram condenser mic into a small Mackey board. The output of the board into my laptop audio input. One of these days I'm going to get a USB A-D converter with a mic preamp so I can just go direct into the computer without the Mackey. I love fooling around recording music, I don't get to do as much as I'd like anymore. As soon as Lance gets the new Sound page up I'll have a couple to lay on you folks as long as you aren't expecting pro results.John How38399.0881597222

I don't have any information on making videos, but I didn't want this thread to slip away without saying how much I enjoyed "Here comes the sun." Very nice playing, I am ready to hear some Sor now!

Some video cameras will only produce a Mono Signal. You can, if that is
the case, always record the video and at the same time record the audio
to another source (like pro-tools or something) and then sync them up.
But in my editing software I can change the panning so I can make it
Mono or stereo.

Also may be an issue of the adaptor your using as well... (although it does
not sound like it as the stereo Y adaptor would be the ticket)

I would guess either it is a setting in your camera, or your camera will
only record mono so when it only gets half the signal it is going
screwy....but then again I would think it if was a mono only thing it would
take the signal from the tip, not the ring and just use that for left and
right..... heck I don't know....

Also I just use quicktime and use a "for the web" setting.. but that is in
final cut...
