I have read, I THINK, that a smaller radius 10-12 degrees makes it easier to barr chords, True?
What about coumpound radaii say, 10/16?
What are pros and cons for smaller radius for help barring.

Bob, have a look at this recent thread. Most classical players, me included (if you can call me that), prefer a flat FB.

Does smaller radius, in fact, making barring easier?

Colin[/QUOTE] I have to offer a counterpoint with this advise. While it is true that flat fingerboards are still in the majority, many of the top builders are putting in radiuses now. Byers, Mueller, Humphreys, etc.

a smaller radius can make barre chords easier for some players.

early fenders used a very small radius, 7 1/2" iirc.

compound radius boards are primarily an aid to extreme benders to help prevent the string from fretting out up the board.

others have pointed out the state of radiused fb's among classical builders and players.

given the width of the classical fb, i would think that there would be a decreaing benefit as the radius started getting toward the smaller end of the reange.

As some of you know, I am asking because of the weakness of fingering-hand-nerve damage-and I am wondering whether radiused or coumpound radius fretboard will help me barr easier-for classical AND steel.--say 10deg./16deg.
Is there a downside for Classical fretboard?Steel fretboard?
I am trying to find all practical changes that can help this problem.
Have also thought of Novax fretting system, not because of intonation improvement, but that the fretting looks very ergonomic sp. ie frets angled the way fretting finger naturally falls on the fretboard. Then I wondered if this system my create problems for finger-picking?
Sorry for rolling on, but any input will be greatly appreciated.
