Don't ask me how much the shipping was, that's between me and Craig (but it was more than the book cost me ) But I really don't mind. I'm so excited about the journey that we all sort of get to go on.

Should be fun.

Lets see if we can keep this post going for the duration of the journey, it could be the longest running topic on the OLF.

Happy Reading my friends.

Anyhow, look for me in the box Arnt, I'll be the bloke wear'in the beer gutz and grin. I reckon I'll probably be a bit hungry after the trip so make sure you have a nice hot whale burger wait'in for me in the boot of the Volvo when you come to pick me and the book up from the post office OK.

Kim, I’ll make sure I stock up on some goodies before you come over. If I’m out of whale, will seal burger do? Oh, and I’m pretty sure I have some smalahove

leftovers laying around, and some lutefisk in case you don’t eat meat. We take real good care of visitors, don’t you worry about a thing! You should try some of my homebrew as well, it'll be fresh off the still, and...

2nd on the list! Wow! If my OLF t-shirt gets here in time I may even have to include a picture of myself reading the book wearing it. I know that it'll probably take over a year to get back home again to Rod, but I can't wait to see scanned piccies of the comments written into the book by all of you.

Don't worry Sam, as long as I don't have it in December, which is when I take my Christmas bath, this should not be a problem.

MmmmmmMmmmm Arnt,

That smalahove looks and sounds delicious. Best thing is, should I happen to get a little home sick, we can always mash one of them mutton heads up and mix in a cup or two of preservatives with some artificial colours and flavours, wrap the whole mess in some pastry, and it will be just like a good'ol Aussie meat pie Yum!

And Arnt, after looking at that picture again, I will be packing some footy boots. I have a great game to show you. It's sort of Australia meets Mongolia in Norway. I reckon it is bound to catch on mate Anyhow I hope it takes off better than my environmentally friendly diaper tattoo idea. Now that was a real winner but them stupid child protection people just don't know what their talk'in about.

Anyhow thanks for this Rod, can't wait to get the book, what a great concept.

Cheers

Kim

Arnt,

While I raise Viking sheep on my farm (Icelandic, which were the Gammel Norsk spaelsau from Western Norway) I am forbidden by my wife to even mention the word smalahove. I have eaten it in Iceland and Norway and it is both a delicacy and grotesque at the same time.

What my wife does allow from our sheep which is pinnekjott which (for those not Norwegian) is smoked lamb ribs that are steamed over a pile of birch branches with juniper berries in the water used for steaming. For those who have not had it, the smoked meat infused by the aroma of the sweet birch branches and juniper berries is a real Norwegian treat... and much more palatable than Lutefisk (which is the norwegian version of gefilte fish) or rotted shark fin which is the norwegian version of rotted (aged, fermented) shark fin.

Aquvit is definitely the drink to have with Viking food or a drink in Iceland that they call "the black death"...

Kim...as far as Aussies, Kiwis and sheep... It just shows how far the Vikings traveled, bringing their livestock and mutton dishes with them
