It`s so dang dry I thought maybe I should get a guitar humidifier,like stew mac sells.Wondering if anyone has tried one ,and if they really work.This isn`t really for a guitar that`s in storage,like a case all the time.It`s for my favorite pickin` guitar that I play daily.It sits out where I have instant access.Of course it could be stored in dry periods if absolutely neccessary, for protection. They work. I recently used a zip lock bag punched full of holes with a damp rag inside (keep it away from the finish). Commercial ones are better. Al |

Any store that sells decent violins sell a variety of them. Lot of violin players use them. They do work. |

for several reasons instruments should be in a case when not being played. they are not interior decor accessories. over the years i would estimate somewhere around 20-30% of the repair work i've done would not have been necessary if the instrument had been put into its case when the pickin' was done. i would urge you to download the tech bulletins on humidity from taylor's website. they have been pushing the barrow for a long while now. unless the room is climate controlled you will have humidity related problems if the guitar is not in its case even if you use a guitar humidifer. note, it is a guitar humidifier not a room or house humidifier. if instant access is so vital that you simply must leave your instrument in an exposed, precarious position you had best look at getting a room or full house humidifier. |

I keep a Planet Waves humidifier in my guitar and a home-made humidifier in my guitar case all winter. My guitar is in the case whenever it's not being played. The rule here in Minnesota is to start using the humidifiers when the trees lose their leaves and stop when they grow new leaves. I'm intrigued by the description of the Oasis humidifiers--I'll have to look into them. |

I've been using a Lifeguard soundhole humidifier for years. I like it for a couple of reasons...if you follow the directions, there's no chance of accidental water damage inside the guitar; and--this is a big one for me--I can leave it in the soundhole while practicing. It mutes the sound some, of course, but it's a fair trade. Now, it doesn't cure all ills--it doesn't do anything for the neck, for instance--but it has protected my guitar from disaster in 20% or lower RH. As others have said, though, if your guitar isn't in your hands, the best place for it is in its case, because that will make any small humidifier you decide to use more effective. You'll thank yourself later! |

Carlton I just put the same one you have in the sound hole of my guitar.I guess better safe than sorry. James W B How often do you have to re water it .I suppose every few days, but not really sure. |

James, Depending on the RH and how much time the guitar spends in the case, you'll probably get a week and a half or so. Maybe even two. |
