Does anyone know what the spindle taper on Craftsman radial drill press is?? (circa 1996 or so) I think I need a better chuck, as there's beeen a runout problem |

probably a Morse #2 (most common). You could pop it out and take it with you to tool store to buy the new one. Delta website might confirm taper. |

Once you pop (drive?) the existing spindle adapter out, it might be a good idea to check the runout on the spindle with a dial indicator. I had a runout problem with my last drill press which wasn't cured with a new chuck and taper adapter. BTW, some of the simpler/smaller drill presses don't have a removable MT adapter but just have a Jacobs or ?? taper machined on the end of the shaft. Keep us posted with your progress! John |

Terry, If you don't have any luck try posting a question on one of the machinist forums out there. Practical Machinist Or The Home Shop Machinist |

thanks. I took the chuck off and the spindle ran smoothly, but I didnt check it with the dial. If I rotate a bit in the chuck it helps a little. Grizzly sells chucks but I don't know if it's morse or Jacobs, or what #. It might be in my manual, but I haven't located that yet.I'll check the sites recommended above. Thanks again |

Terry, If you do a goggle search for Morse taper you should find a database of standard tapers and their small and large diameters and work backwards from there. If not PM me the measurements and I can look it up for you. Louis |
