I'm a long time lurker, & have gotten a lot of info here. So first, thank you all.

I'm going to be bending some Palo Escrito on a pipe. Previously, I have only bent maple, which I spray with water just before bending. I've gotten several suggestions, from soaking for about an hour, to overnight, to what I do with maple. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.......don

Wade Sylvester has bent some. I'm sure he'll be along to comment before long.

Welcome to the OLF !

My first 2 guitars were Palo Escrito. I had no experience bending anything at the time. I made a lightbulb type bender, Threw the wood into a bathtub of warm water for 5 minutes and bent away. As soon as I heard the wood start to sizzle I started clamping the bends....No problem. I really don't remember how thick the sides were, but they were probably thicker than they should have been.

Good luck,

Al

Welcome Don,
One of my latest is make from Palo Escrito I got from LMI years ago. It seemed to bend fine.
No special instruction other than the usual syspects.
I dunked the sides in water for a few seconds. I used to use a pipe but resently got a small blanket that I drape over the same pipe to bend my sides. It heats the sides more evenly but you can still "feel" when the wood is ready to bend.
Works for me.

Wade
