Well, she's finally done and I must say I'm pretty pleased overall! She also sounds really good for a "green" guitar, very well balanced. There's a few things I would have liked to have done better but I did learn from a few mistakes. I am most encoraged and have already begun #2 which will be this same Auditorium shape with the sister set of walnut and a redwood top. Thanks to all those here who have helped and encouraged me along the way. here's the pics...:D

Awesome ! I'm glad i finished mine a few days ago - I wouldn't want to have to follow that !!! You'll be amazed by how the sound imroves over the next few days ( I certainly have been with mine ) |

Chris, That's a lovely looking and elegant guitar, and for a first one bodes well for a good building career. Is it your design? Where does Port Orford cedar sit in the cedar/redwood/spruce tonal range? |

Chris, for a first guitar you have done VERY well! That thing is gorgeous! I love the fingerboard, is that macassar ebony? Very tastefully done dude, can't wait to see #2.

Congratulations Chris! I hope you are basking in the great feeling of accompolishment that is well deserved.
How many hours of playing time have you logged so far on this one? Is it ready for a new set of strings yet? Enjoy and looking forward to seeing your next. |

Chris, talk about one sweet axe ! WOW, Can't be your first, no way man, awesome, pure delight for the eyes!
What material did you use for the rosette? That fretboard is killer!

For specs, it is indeed a walnut neck. The fretbored is simply undyed ebony from the old Gibson plant that used to be here in Michigan. My instructor bought it by the grocery cart full. However, there not all like this. I dug through a stack of about 300 fretboards before finding this one. I will see what I can do about a closeup of the rosette. |

The headstock is my design although I've seen several others very similar. The bridge is my take on Hesh's wonderful design. I have very limited experience with the Port Orford and have only logged about an hour on this guitar. I will need to spend more time with it before I can give aa answer. |

Hi Todd, Next on the bench is this same body style with the sister set of claro and a redwood top. Back is already complete and am currently thickness sanding the top. Will probably begin rosette work this weekend. |

Hi Bob, It may be because all the snow here keeps us looking for something to do inside during the winter months. It could also be the arsenic in the fish has subplanted itself in our brain (fish is brain food you know), and transformed us into guitar building zombies. It is entirely out of our control...we are slaves to the machine. Or, maybe not too...

Although I'm quite pleased with this guitar as a first, I will be the first to point out that it's a one-foot guitar.... Looks real sweet from a foot or so! Most of my troubles are quite small and finish type things. It could really use a couple more drop fills and a rebuff. For now though, I'll just enjoy it. |

Keep up the good work! Serge[/QUOTE] Thanks Serge, For the rosette and the logo on the headstock I used a product I'll most likely avoid in the future. It was a laminated abalone from a company called inlay USA. It worked pretty good for the logo but not for the rosette. The material is very thin and glued to a thin veneer. Flakes off very easy and you're left with no abalone and a white glue residue...nice! I ended up having to replace sections of my rosette due to this. |
