Well, I am in the final stages on this build and have decided to use a Tru oil finish. Its easy to work and produces a very high gloss, trouble is,it show all my inperfections, and I mean every spec of dust. I want to degloss or knock it down, but not sure hoe to go about it. I tried rubbing down with 0000 wool, but it just really clouds it up. I was thinking about using pumice powder, which I have, but not sure how to apply it wet or dry--maybe theres a better method??? For the amount of time I ahve into this finish and the subpar results so far, I pretty sure I'll be farming out the finish. |

AF, If you let the Tru-oil cure for a couple of weeks or so you can use the variopus grades of micro-mesh to wet-polish it up - all the way up to 12,000 using water with some washing-up liquid in it. A lot is going to depend on how far into the finish the dust particles are. The pumice is going to be too agressive I think. Don't worry. "Finishing" is definitely an oxymoron and everyone struggles. The more you do the better you get. |
