Hi everyone, here are pics of what i've been up to this week end.

Made a new template for the tuner holes position



drilled the holes...





fitted the tuners in





Gettin' there slowly...



making the heel cap with maple and ebony, i cut these with the bandsaw



glueing...



now i gotta trim this...



A few strokes with rasps and sandpaper et voila!



I also took more meat off the neck, felt a bit too heavy and bumpy...





my guitar now weighs 4 pounds and 3 oz with all it's gear except for the strings , nut and saddle and finish nor did i sand anything yet, my guess would be that it should end up at 4 1/2 lbs, what do you guys think?

I love it, that sure is looking great bud. Can't wait to see it all finished up.

Have you decided on a finish for it yet? I bet that ash has some good size pores to fill eh?

Keep going bud, It'll be ready for Easter

Good progress Serge!I like that thick ebony heel cap you made.It's going to look cool finished.So how do you like your hand held neck sander?? They work Great don't they??they're so fast taking off wood!    This guitar sure is lookin' good Serge

Rod, i think i'll seal the numerous (Yup) pores with epoxy and apply varnish and finish it with FP AND BUFF, Thanks bud!

Thanks Dave, oh yeah the sander works great but i have lent it to my bud Alain so taking the bitty rest of meat was done using the scraper.

Thanks brother Hesh, yes, i love that fretboard, it was a nice coco plank that i found at Lee Valley, it was calling my name!

I most agree with you on weighing your guitars, it helps to set goals for the next build i think and to compare the weights of each components from every type of woods too

FP over varnish but i'll have to practice a bit on scraps first, i might also try to give the back and sides a very light tint to kinda get an equilibrium!

This is a really nice and clean guitar!!
Beautiful craftsmanship indeed.
What color are you going to stain it?
Or leave it natural.

You do some very clean and sharp lines brother.
Can't wait until it's completed.

Is it going to be a 12 or 14 fret to the body?

JJ, how about a OLF gathering at Bob's or at Tony's? Not sure where we could all meet again but i sure look forward to shake my bros paws again, my only problem is making sure that i will still have that guitar by then, if it's ready and finished and Uncle Norman shows up, she's gone me thinks! Hi Walter, if i stain my guitar, i think i would go with amber or of a very light tint. This neck is a 14 fretter to the body, thanks for your kind words of encouragement Walter! [:)]

Thanks Lillian, almost there sis! tonight i tried to fit that neck but dang is it long sometimes.

Then the finishing, glueing of the bridge, nut and saddle, wooden pickguard, i'd say about a month!

How did you make it?

Rod mentioned “ASH”

Is that white ash?

I’ve got a pile of white ash left over from a custom wood floor job I did a couple of years ago.
I’ve been wondering if I could use that wood for sides and backs.

You’re doing some fine work there my friend! Really nice!

Irwin, you're spot on with the canon remark! The other day I just held my ear to the soundhole and gave it a light tap at the bridge position... My head exploded and my face melted a bit!

So bud, what the planned finish on this baby? FP?

I'm thinking there should be strings on there soon, no?

Remind me to hook you up with a brad-point the next time you drill for tunners...

Thanks everyone!

Robert, thanks, the fingerboard is mainly cocobolo from a plank i bought at Lee Valley, the purf is maple and it is bound with cocobolo, i just sliced on each side and added mple in between, all around to give that frame effect. Yup curly white ash from our sponsor BobC, won it at an auction last year, this wood i think will gain popularity soon me thinks! Don't be afraid to use yours!

Dave, you've never heard me singing, it's obvious!

Thanks Alain for the cannon explanation, i'll now be more careful and wear bo-boats when i tap it! Not sure again about the finish, one thing for sure is that i'm gonna get me some system 3 epoxy this week end and sand prep the surfaces. I might go the varnish or urethane route, Walter seemed to like the results he had on his last effort so i might give that a try on scrap and see if i like what i see! I hear you on the brad point bits, i always forget to buy me some when i'm at the Home depot store, dang!

Serge, the best brad-points I've seen (and this is supported by a major woodworking magazine) are Lee Valley's high-speed-steel. They cut beautifully clean, straight holes.
