I'm in the middle of setting up a SimpleMachines forum at this very moment, for a group of perhaps a hundred. We just selected a provider and are now scratching the surface on configuration. I've got about 40 hours in it already. It's given me new respect for what it must take to run this forum. They've done a first-class job. |

Spot on with the thanks and kudos Hesh my sentiments exactly. But a warning to all about photobucket, it has a hole in it! Whilst it is fine for short term stuff like showing your latest wood acquisition etc, I would not recommend posting a tutorial or other important image bases postings via links to photobucket at all. I know from my own experience on other forums that this can be extremely frustration for anyone who searches the archives for such material. After a while, those photobucket images get trashed, and when this happens the viewer is faced with the dreaded X where ever there was once an image. This is the very hight of frustration and annoyance for both author and searcher. If Lance and Brock are that concerned about keeping accurate record of our post in the archives that they were compelled to remove the ability for us to edit or delete them, then they should also be concerned about the very real potential to loose the image content from this data base as well. This I am afraid be the price of photobucket, there is no such thing as a free lunch, the sooner we can upload images to the OLF server again, the safer our content will be for prosperity. Gee, I been whining a lot lately, anyone else noticed??

I'll echo everyones sentiments here as well. Administering a forum like this is no small task, particularly with the growing number of users and the technical limitations of the database that we use for it. The OLF is very quickly becoming one of the most significant bodies of knowledge pertaining to luthiery on the net. The information is easy to find in the archives and the relevence and technical level of the information is without parallel, in my opinion. This is due to the unselfish manner in which everyone on this forum, whether they be battle hardened Brazilians or inquisitive Walnuts, have shared their knowledge. Without Lance and Brock facilitating an avenue for the this dissemination of information, we would all be poorer. (maybe we'd be richer from not spending so much on tools and wood )
So my hat is off to both of them. |

I also want to thank you both. I really enjoy this forum and have learned so much. It is this forum that has helped me start my first guitar. Even though I have no musical talent and few woodworking skills I know that any questions or problems will be answered here. The members are free with their advice and support of all other memebers regardless of their skill level. When I finish my guitar and give it to my Father I will be proud of what I have done. I will also know that much of what I learned and was able to accomplish was due to this forum. So again, thank you for your hard work. I would think that most of us members feel this way even if we never say it. Thanks Philip |

I'm glad you posted this Hesh Buddy. The OLF is a great place to hang out and see things that are worth while, uplifting, even inspiring. It's odd in a time when most have so much that there seems to be such a dirth of gratitude. This is sad because a man can't really be a man without learning this key part of life. I appreciate Lance and Brocks spirit of service which I believe is a reflection of their gratitude for their well developed talents as luthiers and human beings. Thanks again guys! |

Without going too far into the specifics, he has somehow destroyed the utility we use to upload images, we have tried reinstalling it to no avail. So now we have the coder who helped us set the system up trying to figure out how to get it going again. |

Hesh well said and appropriately timed! The amount of traffic on this site is amazing and sure makes getting answers to questions almost as quick as picking up the phone and calling another builder. With the amount of well described “how to” info posted here and the contacts made it almost obviates the need to subscribe to some of the luthier periodicals available. |
