Anyone tried the Crystalac clear filler? This might be an alternative to Z-poxy. I appreciate all the info posted about Z-poxy last weekend. I am fairly interested in giving it a try, but I can also see some advantages to this clear filler: 1. waterbased- low toxicity and easy clean up 2. untinted- no problems matching filler to wood. Z- poxy has this attribute as well. Ability to be tinted with latex paint if need be. 3. The ability to use shellac from the wood up, which means easier repairs should the finish need to be retouched. Also, a more predictable appearance since I am used to what shellac does to various woods. Z-poxy gives a different look by all accounts. My main concern is how easy is it to get off and back down to bare wood once you squeegee it in. Unlike Z-poxy, I would not want to leave a coating of the clear filler intact to finish over. |

I tried it several years ago and didn't really care for it. I didn't go totally clear like I wanted, some of the pores were a cloudy with hints of white, it mostly cleared under finish however. The problems may have been my application I don't know. However, filling with epoxy has just kind of become a no brainer for me. |
