Just received a parcel of wood from one of my main suppliers here in the UK, mainly cedrela and mahogany neck blanks. Included in the parcel were four fingerboard blanks which I'd asked for some time ago, when he had the billet cut, and he included them. They are of very old Brazilian rosewood that he'd had laying around for some time. They are perfectly on quarter, and are very straight grained with alternating light and dark stripes about 1-2mm wide. They are the type of BRW that you just don't see now. Anyway he managed to cut 5 Fingerboards from the billet and I had 4 of them! I wish I could get B&S wood with this grain even I, a mahogany freak, would buy it. This is a shot of the wood, the contrast of the grain doesn't really come out, but it is wonderful. ![]() Colin (Thanks to Dave for putting this pic on his site so I could post it) |

if you were on the left side of the pond colin you would have access to steve's cache of old growth brw at colonial. alas he can't ship it out of the country. now don't you wish your ancesters had been criminals or heretics or otherwise undesireable to er's ancesters prior to 1776? |

Or, Colin, come for a long visit. While here, buy your heart's content of BRW, and build some guitars. Of course, you'd have to leave them here, but that's ok by me. ![]() Steve |

Hi Collin, They will make a gorgeous fingerboard! I was wondering who you buy wood from in the UK. I'm just starting out building with a kit but i am thinking about getting some wood together for #2. It would be great not to have to import it. best wishes, john. |

Two in the UK that are great are Luthiers Supplies (David Dyke) Luthiers Supplies, They are really helpful and will always do their best to find you what you want. There is also Touchstone Touchstone I get most of my supplies from Luthiers Supplies, and the odd thing from Touchstone. Also a good source are Madinter in Spain, as an EU member we just pay their VAT and shipping costs are pretty good. In fact I'm waiting on some wood from them now. madinter.com PM me if you want some more detailed info on who is good for what. Colin |
