Hello all,

lately I’ve been thinking of a couple of old friends that I used to play in a band
with many years ago. I have not seen or heard from them in about 20 years.
Being here at the OLF has re-kindled some old memories of those guys.

I know this might be a bit of stretch, asking if anyone knows them. But, we’ve all heard the old
saying, “It’s A Small World”. So, who knows!

Their names are; Steve Kalles, and Brian Kalles. (I’m not sure if I have spelled the name right)

Here’s a little of what I know about them;

Steve played electric guitar. Brian played bass guitar, but in the last few years I knew him,
he was making the transition to keyboards.(electric piano and organ)
They both were born(I think), and lived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
They had a brother named Michael. He was the second oldest, Brian was the youngest.
I’m not exactly sure of their ages. But, I think Steve would be about 54 now, and Brian 49.
I first met them in 1975, in Hallandale Beach, Florida at the Diplomat Hotel
where I used to work as a Cabana boy. We became friends
fairly quick. They invited me to Toronto, so I went.
I lived there for about 6 months. Got to know them pretty well.
I say that because of a story they told me of how their father died, which
I believe was in the mid to late 1960's. This story has to be unique to only them. Here it is;

Their father was playing golf that day. He had hit one into the woods.
The ball came to rest either up against a stump or close to it.
From what I remember, his friends told him to move the ball.
But, he insisted that he should play the ball as it lies.
Now, from what I understand, back then golf club shafts were made of materials other than steel and graphite.
I can’t remember what Steve said the shaft was made of. But, when his father took the swing, it hit the stump.
The shaft split. The club head recoiled, and allowed the broken shaft to swing around and slice
his fathers neck. One of his fellow golfers was a doctor, and administered care immediately.
However, he had died of complications later in the hospital.

Folks, my only intention to all of this, is to just say hello to some old friends.

If any of this sounds familiar, or if anyone feels inclined to talk to me about this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for listening, Robert

Just a thought, Robert. If they're still musicians, perhaps the musician's union may have a record of they're whereabouts.

Here's a thought, too. I recently was longing to track down my best friend from elementary school that I hadn't seen or heard of in over 40 years. I started by just searching his name on yahoo (BG "Before Google"). After a couple of days I had found him living in Texas. I haven't seen him yet, but I plan to. I did call and we had a really nice and very long talk on the phone. I love the internet most of the time.

Maybe Tony or Anthony would know them folks from the Toronto music scene?

Good luck Robert!

This works for many. www.anywho.com

I found an old friend who loaned me his Cessna to get my pilot's license.

I knew him as Cecil, turns out his name was really Dewayne. The phone listing came up with C.D. which I did not recognize, but his wife's name, Darlene clued me in to the fact he was back in Arkansas. Good luck in your search.

Detectives can be good for this and the price is resonable sometimes!

I lost touch with a dear friend some years ago. She sent me a Christmas card this year saying that she thinks about me an awful lot...I think of her too, often, with the intention of making time to meet up again. I don't find many people on my wavelength, and she was right on it!

Think I'm gonna give her a call on Monday. Thankyou for this prompting.

BTW, the internet can be amazing for re-connecting with old friends. Try websites like Friends Reunited etc. That was how my estranged father of 20 years got in contact with me again. We've been in constant contact ever since, with regular visits to each other's houses.

Thanks All,

JJ, I had not thought of that. I will try the musicians union.

Ron, I have done some searching on the internet. But, with little results.
I haven’t given up though. I’m very happy to hear it worked for you!

Serge my friend, I was thinking the same thing, and I’m hoping they chime in here.

Bruce, I ‘ll take your suggestion, and go to that site.

Billy, there are some (pay for) people searches on the web.
I’m not sure if I want to go that route yet.

Sam, if all that happens from this thread, is a reunion with your dear friend.
Then I say HALLELUJAH!!!
My wife says to me quite often, “Everything happens for a reason”
She could be right with this one!
I sincerely hope you do call your friend.
You will never regret it!

Thanks again, Folks

Robert your friends names don't ring a bell. One way to check would be to check Canada411 which provides phone numbers and addresses.

Good luck!

Well Robert, I'm gonna give her a call tommorow, spurred by this thread. I really do value my friendships dearly, and I can't understand how I let this one slip by..

In answer to your question in the painting thread, yes, I did call her; it's half term at the moment, so she must be away with her husband and kids...I left a message on her answerphone, so it's her call!!
