Thanks, AF...it's nice to know one can shellac over true oil. It's just another escape route to keep in mind. I'm always looking for new escape routes!

OK, after all the trials I've been thru with this vintage dred I'm building, I finaly layed down several coats of shellac over the Z-poxy and some tru-oil. I could not get a nice even coat and decided to wet sand it witrh some warm water and a few drops of dish soap. Started with 600 grit and got it glass smooth without getting thru the shellac. Its a nice matte finish that I want to buff up a bit--not high gloss, more of a semi. Question is, do I have to wait a certain amount of time for it to cure before polishing? I'm not sure how durable this shellac finish will be, but it should let the Dred sing? |

yes. your buffer will generate heat and can go through an uncured finish in a trice. i would give it several weeks. |

I was going to use teh tru-oil as a finish, but wasn't happy with the gloss finish and couldn't get it smooth--also clouded when I tried knocking down the gloss. So I went to shellac over it, no adhesion problems and it looks really nice. |

Thats exactly what it was, an escape route. However, it seems I came across a nice finish! |
