Hi everybody This weekend I took a field trip to Lance McCollum Guitars in Colfax, Ca. Lance builds about 35 world class guitars per year in his garage shop. We had a nice visit and I got to see a few of his jigs, which are really no different than anything we all use. His rosette tools are somewhat unique as you might guess if you've seen his work. I got to play a couple of guitars also. Very responcive and full sounding. We also went through his wood pile and now he'll have to clean them becouase I drooled all over them. Check out his site, he recieved a players choice award from Acoustic Guitar Magazine for builders building under 100 guitars in 2004. Very nice stuff. |

Thank God for this forum, it's so much more fun to share our experiences with a few friends. How did the visit come about? Did you just call him up? thirty five, wow, one man shop? |
