Hello all,
I was contacted a while ago about building a guitar for someone who already has the wood but wanted someone else to build it. I told him I could do it and he sent me the wood and a check. By God, if the wood was not some of the best I have ever seen.

He sent me Brazilian rosewood and a red spruce top which I talked him into switching to euro spruce. He wanted an ab purfling on the top and ab rosette. This is what I have done so far.

This is the brazilian he sent. I have never seen such a nice straight set.


Here is the top and back.

And here is the guitar with binding and prufling on. This was my first ab purfling.



And here is the fingerboard.

Nice Job Blake, it's a beauty. Thanks for sharing the pics. I had to take out %20 and insert an actual spacebar space to get it to work in Internet Explorer 7. Who'd have thought weblinks would balk at a space these days? Anyway, it's a great looking Dred.

Like Bruce said, its the % sign in the file name. That is placed in where ever a blank space in the file name exists. rename your files and edit your links and you'll be fine.

Thanks for all of the comments guys and for the help on posting pics. This guitar will be sprayed next week , so only another couple weeks or so until completion. I thought the brazilian was the best I had ever seen. I think my customer bought it from colonial tonewoods, just to get the plug in for one of the sponsors. Again thanks for the nice comments and for looking.

Wow, that's really nice.
I find it a bit unnerving working with a customer's wood, especially wood that nice. Do you? (I mean, I still do it, but the thought of ruining someone elses's priceless set makes the perspiration bead up a bit more.)

When bending this set I almost had a baby I was so nervous. I discussed with the customer that if the sides break, I could not be held responsible, that sometimes sides just break. I also told him that his wood comes with no lifetime guarantee. If a brace pops loose or the neck needs to be reset, I will take care of it, but if a crack appears, it was his wood, and it isnt covered under warranty because I dont know the history of the wood. The sides actually came with a crack that I was able to repair before bending.

I was nervous when I accepted the wood to build with but I am glad it has turned out okay. This is a first for me, accepting someone elses wood to build with, but overall I have been very happy with the transaction. The customer is a super-cool guy.
