Hi, does anyone know where to get the out-of-print book "Custom Guitars: A Complete Guide to Contemporary Handcrafted Guitars" (2000) No luck on amazon, ebay etc. - found just one book dealer who requires about 500 US$ (original price: 30 US). Any help - or sale offers ;-) - much appreciated. Thanks, Martin |

Go to Powells.com and do a search. If it doesn't come up, put it on your wish list. They will email you when they get a copy in. It took 2 years, but I was able to get an out of print book I had wanted. |

According to the signed label inside the cover of my copy, there were only 300 printed. I have #278, signed by David Lusterman and Simone Solondz, publisher and editor respectively at String Letter Publishing, Sept 1, 2000. I do not know if there ever was a subsequent run after the 300, and if not, you are in rare territory. I imagine that most copies reside in the hands of the luthiers that contributed (as I did on page 21) and it would be hard to pry one from them for any amount of money. It is a first class printing, complete with hard slip cover. The photos are outstanding as is the information listing all the makers who contributed photos. |

I did see your guitar, walnut w/ redwood top. It is a great book. I don't know if that was a money maker for them or not, but I sure would like to see more books like that in the market. |

It appears that there ARE books beyond the "300" hardcover of which I own #278. Talking with my buddy, Lance McCollum, it appears there are softbound books also...he has one and wanted to know where mine was "signed" by the big cheeses...his was not signed. So...there may be hope to find a softbound issue. If I remember, the hardbounds were $80 and Lance says his was $40 back in 2000. |

There's one used softcover on Amazon right now. If you simply want it as a reference book, there are two moderately water damaged softcovers at a local music store marked at 45% off retail, which is about $22 (which really isn't a great of a deal for water damaged, but for this store it's nearly a miracle). The bottom inch and a half are wrinkled with a slight water line, but the bindings are still good. If you go quick before others read this you may be able to get the amazon used/good condition for the same price as the water damaged copies here. |

THANK YOU AAAALLLL ! I got it (or, to be precise, I got a email comfirmation). Hank, I am sure you have the super-full-power-deluxe-version in your hands, I didn?t know that it exists due to it?s rarity upto now. The book I meant was paperback - these were sold for 30 US when they were available. The 500+$ book surely the hardcover version, thanks for clearing. Best regards from Germany, Martin |
