I certainly won't PM you on this Michael because you've put this out there on the public forum and you've now created the stage for engagement on this matter.

No one is holding a gun to your head to read the post you know. I haven't looked at it since the 27th post because I lost interest in it.

The off topic section is really for this sort of thing. For friends across the world to share laughs, tears, celebrations etc... with one another, on a large scale. It adds to the forum by creating and strengthening friendships, that's what it's all about.

Who really cares if it goes on for weeks on end. We all love a good laugh and really, it's not hurting anyone. These guys are not professional comedians (like the two you've mentioned) and they don't have to hold the attention of their audience for success. Obviously those who are engaged in the topic are doing so on their own free will and enjoying themselves.

Again, this is really why the off topic section is here.

If you really want to stay on topic for guitar related stuff you don't have to venture over to the off topic sections.

Heck, the MIMF has one too, but I never really went there cause I never really bonded with anyone over there, they tend to talk about chocolate like it's gold, and I for one don't really care for chocolate, but that certainly doesn't mean that they shouldn't talk about it.

Please don't slag some very fine folks for enjoying themselves and their friends, that's really in poor taste I think.

Actually, I think I may have to take another look at the topic just to see what's making it so popular.

Rod, Very eloquently said! Someone had to say it, Thank you Sir!

Yes, Rod you should go back to that thread. Some of it is just absolutely Hilarious!!!

Michael, in my 30+ years being in the Home Building business, I have run across all different
kinds of people. I’ve come to the conclusion, that Maturity is not measured in years. Maturity is, I believe,
measured by aspects of ones’ character. Like, Dedication, Integrity, Diligence, etc.....

When it comes to humor, nothing is sacred!

You said, “I don't see the humor in this.” that’s OK. There’s things I don’t find funny either.
However, the thought of censorship, or any kind of promotion for OLFer’s to be
apprehensive with their posts would be very disappointing to me!

Well, I guess I’ve said enough.

Rod has already said exactly what, and how it needed to be said.

Just one more thing though, And please, don’t be offended when I say this, But,

Lighten Up my friend!!!

Robert

I think it is funny because even the most lady like of ladies has at one time or another let one pass. I also think this thread has gone on so long because we are imperfect and at times it is good to celebrate that imperfection. I have kids and have changed a few diapers, seems we are born making a stink and continue to do so until we depart.

Also for almost all, there have been moments when life stinks turning it sideways sometimes helps.

Sorry, but I thought the thread in question proved that everyone on this site has a great sense of humour!!!

Surely you cannot help but laugh at Rod True's Serge Bopping Flash Animation!!!

PLus the fact that long threads like this have existed before on the OLF, with humour different to this current thread. I guess you have to be familliar with the regulars on here to appreciate it.

I just see this forum as a place where intelligent and talented Luthiers can use humour to disperse the feelings of tension one feels when building a guitar. Ever expereinced the gutted feeling of something going wrong with a build? I see this subforum as a way of alleviating the stress.

Anyway, the sort of humour I find tasteless are usually ones that are racist, or extremely degrading to humans

Or perhaps I just have an infantile sense of humour.....

Oh, oh. I just posted there calling for a Page Four. Then I went to the top of a page, which says, "And Our Community is Proudly Sponsored By...."

Well, after all, this is the Off Color section...uh, oops...never mind!

Michael,

I just re-read my post above, and I realized that it looks like I was disrespecting you by being silly, and not addressing your perfectly valid opinion. Sorry.

I know that sometimes threads can veer off into complete silliness, and that's certainly happened in the "Apology" thread. For some of us, though, it's just plain fun for a while. That's if it doesn't get seriously vulgar, and no personal insults are thrown in. I don't think that that has happened in this instance. Don't be too concerned, my friend, because it will go away soon, I'm sure.

Michael, i could certainly appreciate the fact that this type of humour doesn't suit your taste but your concerns are rather of external image rather than bondship IMHO, please know that by saying this, i have nothing against you personaly but i can't be on the same wave length as you with regards to the concerns that you raise here.

If this thread has disapointed you, i can only offer apologies that would not last because my bros here are are just as turbulents as me and hard to control!

Peace

Serge

It's ok, Serge. Everyone needs to blow off a little steam now and then.

Yes I agree Rod - you DONT HAVE TO read it - I mean what would make someone read every post in that thread if they had an aversion, I wasnt interested in it and therefore completely skipped it - its that simple.
When someone starts to monitor the actions and speech of others, and impose thier sensibilities upon others, especially when they have no authority to do so here at the OLF,
{thats the job of the Admins and Mods},
this is when the trouble begins, IMHO.
Cheers
Charlie

Poor Deprived Rod! It IS gold!
And not just in the profit-margin sense....

It is the First of the 5 Basic Food Groups, and perhaps the most important!
