I was able to finish up the binding and get it all scraped this weekend.

The entire box has been sanded to 220 and will begin final fitting of the
neck and setting bridge position before beginning the finish process on
the box.

The top has been wiped with mineral spirits so I could review my sanding
progress. It's getting close, real close.
(Notice the mineral type deposits or stains in both sides of the the lower
bouts. So far, no amount of sanding has removed them. I think this will
be a permanent appearance.

It's looking really good, Chris. I think those color variations on the top will actually look pretty nice under finish, since they're bookmatched so well.

Chris it is looking great I think that guitar is going to sound awesome. You may remember I had the issue with my redwood top just not looking right to my eyes and I would do whatever you thought you could to get the look you are going for.

I had some rough spots that turned dingy dark with the epoxy I used. If I had to do it again I would have tested a piece first. Seems so obvious. So I wonder if there isn't a finish that will diminish those stains a bit?

If you have piece with the same coloration you can try epoxy, which will darken a lot, shellac, which will darken a bit, and a waterborne that will darken very little. I ended up using the epoxy, then sanded that back then, finished with a waterborne.

Still darker than I wanted but perhaps there's a combo that will get you what you are looking for.

Looking good Chris, What wood is that for the back and sides? Your work so far looks really sharp and clean. I bet you don't find any suprises with the finish since you are being so carefull.

Your Redwood top looks like it has been claimed from the wild--almost like sinkerwood.

Thanks for the compliments.

Yes, this past weekend I performed about a half dozen songs with it.
It needs a little more final set up as fret #9 is a little high yet which
inhibits my playing style which sometimes incorporates one or two capos
simultaneously. Folks were really impressed with it's balance and tone as
was I but I really need to get back to the final setup.

Hey, I got to hear Chris' #1 at the above-mentioned event, and it did sound really good! Very warm and musical. It's a nice guitar all around, too. I especially like the feel of the neck--very well done. It's his first hand-carved neck, too, which makes it even more impressive.
