I'm self employed and when work is slow well.....it's slow with little to do. But for me, I've been (and still am) taking two university courses to further my career and they've been anything but fun so, I really haven't had much time in the shop since around Christmas. Anyway, today was a slow work day and the wife and kids went off to Grandma's house soooooo......I took about 5 hours and gave myself some well earned shop time. (I'll have to hit the books tonight though). So I thought I would post some progress. I made some very good headway on the Celtic Imbuia/cedar guitar. I had the side bent from about two weeks ago and I glued up the cutaway and the tail block. Now I know that this doesn't sound like much, but I tried to get the cutaway joint to be seamless like the last one I did, so that took a far amount of time just to line it up. I think it will turn out too, here's a pic ![]() And I also got the truss rod installed on the neck for the Celtic guitar as well as the maple/cedar guitar. I'm using the new Allied 2 way rods and I glued a spline over top. I kind of like that method, it really makes the rod good and snug in the slot. ![]() And here is the lot of everything. ![]() It sure was nice to get into the shop today. I'll be able to get in there a couple more times with in the next 2 weeks, than I got 3 weeks before my final exams so I'll be studying hard, but than I have the next 4 months before more classes start. Anyway, thanks for looking. |

It's great to get some shop time when it's so precious, ain't it!? 5 hours is about as much as I can ever manage. Now, when the wife and kids go to Texas for a family reunion.......... ![]() |

Looking good, Rod. I inlayed bloodwood dots on a FB and pearl side dots on two FBs. The wife is going to spend 4 days with the grandkids this week, so I get a lot of shop time. ![]() Ron |

Very nice Rod. How do you like woking with imbuia? I like the smell when cutting it. It should look great under a finish. |

Thanks alot my friends for the kind words. It was so good to get in the shop. Bob well.......I too like the smell of Imbuia when sanded, but I sure had a hard time bending that cutaway piece. I used a whole extra side that I had because it just kept cracking. I finally got a piece that worked out, but it still has a small crack that needs filling. If I use it again in the future, I'll have to invest in so super soft or some other fiber softener when bending. Anyway, all the bending is done and it should come together rather quickly. I have the back braced and shaped and it's ready to glue on once I get the linings in. I too love the florentine guys, well worth the effort I think. Cheers all. |
