Assuming that the guitar sides are approx .080" thick, and standard kerfing is used, how wide can a single binding ledge be without compromising the overall strength of the guitar? Thanks, Ray |

I route to 90 thou for binding, and routinely see the kerfing - its done all the time. |

The only thing to watch out for with visible kerfed linings post-routing: excessive and over-zealous use of superglue to stick the stuff on. It can make a right mess of the inside of your guitar. Go on. Ask me how I know. |

I think thats one of the beauties of reverse kerf bindings...much more difficult for the glue to drip down into the guitar. I usually go through my sides all the way in many places and see kerfing exposed when routing my binding channels. -j. |

This discussion points out the structural role of the bindings- they're not just decoration, so material (wood vs plastic) and glue choices should make a difference in longevity and even sound (in theory).
