My Jarrah fretboards just arrived. Tim wrapped them to be imperious to the Seattle rain, which is a good thing because that's exactly where my postman left it. Tim also included a few samples of cheesewood and mulga. Cool stuff. I like both of them, but I'm really interested in the cheesewood. It looks like ivory from a couple of feet, or else I need new glasses.

Once I decide what wood I'm going to use for the back and sides, I'll decide on the pretty bits that I want to use with it. I have a feeling that cheesewood will be on it somewhere.

Thanks again Tim.

You should check out Lace Sheoak. The samples Tim sent me are beautiful. Tim is a great guy, sells great wood, and offers excellent customer service. You'll definitely be happy dealing with him.

Well thank you for all the accolades. It is good to know that it gets there in good shape and you are pleased with the product.

Hey Tim, any pictures of this cheesewood?

I'd like to see this stuff. Could be a great wood for bindings to look like ivoroid maybe if I'm reading Lillian's description right.

Rod,

My exact thoughts! In fact I am planning to obtain the long enough material to have one piece rather than two for my own guitars.

Hesh, I thought it was just me. I couldn't get into that heavy plastic without an exacto knife. Even then, it took a few minutes to open it.
Tim, don't change your packaging.

Man, first monkeypod and now cheesewood! Have all the good names been taken--oak, maple, walnut, spruce? What's the world coming to?

You have honey locust? What's it like as a tone wood? I know what its like in the wild and how resilient it is to an axe. But tamed? Does it behave with hand tools? How does it bend? Inquiring minds want to know.

I am a Western Australian originally from the SW in our beautiful forests there the Karris and Jarrah and Marri come from. I am very keen to know how these (and other beautiful Australian)woods go as tone woods. I have seen jarrah B&S sets on a few US wib sites. Anyone had experience with Aust tone woods?

Hi Dominic

There are a few sites within Australia marketing Australian tonewoods. A google should produce a few links. Feel free to puruse Australiantonewoods.com Should you have any specific questions send me an email (tjspittle@optusnet.com.au) or a PM

regards

Gday Dom and welcome to the OLF.

You would do very well to contact Tim Spittle. It is my opinion that he is the best tonewood vendor in this country bar none and I am sure that other members here at the OLF will back up my claim.

Tim has some amazing tonewoods in stock from all over AU and at very good prices. He knows Aussie tonewoods better than anybody and he knows how to cut and handle wood for this craft because he is a very good builder in his own right. Best of all, he's always willing to share the knowledge and just talk guitars for a while so dealing with him is not all about making sales.

Where abouts in WA are you located??

Cheers

Kim

I'll second that Kim.

I just got some Lutz tops from Tim.

I got a phone call when I ordered them to discuss what I wanted in the tops and a follow up after they arrived to see if I was happy with them.

Can't get any better than that.

Oh, and the Lutz tops are great. Just as stiff as some Adi that Ive got.

Cheers

Bob

Thanks for the welcome and tips everyone. Sorry for the slow response. Heaps of interesting posts in this forum and I got distracted from looking back here.
Cheers
