Greetings, I have a 24 inch homemade drum sander based loosely on the Kuster Kit. The drum has a six inch diameter and made with 3/4 inch (close to) diemakers grade plywood. I have been using regular roll sanding paper, attaching it at both ends of the wrap and using spray adhesive on the drum. I would like to go to a Velcro type adhesive. Can anyone tell me where I can find industrial strength adhesive back material to wrap the drum so that I can use the hook and loop system. I see various velcro items on the internet, but am not sure what is applicable for this application. Thanks, Ken |

Ken, I think that the velcro might introduce some unwanted padding between the roller and the sandpaper. I know the spray adhesive is a pain, but it might be the best way to go. |

I use hook and loop on my drum sander and it does sometimes introduce fluctuaations in the surface but if you make small passes moving the peice around with each pass it works ok. It was the only method I could find that would attach the abrasive securely and keep it in place without slippage. It is also now very easy to replace the abrasive and if the fluxuations get too bad I just take it off and re-install it. I got my hook and loop kit from Grizzly. hook and loop |

Thanks for the help and advise. I have found out that Klingspor has a conversion kit for velcro. Since they are near by, I think I will check them out first. |

www.stockroomsupply.com - they have klingspor hook and loop stearated in 4.5 inch width, thats what I use, even though I took the other half of the velcro off the drum - too much bother getting the paper on straight. Now I ahve a wedge at one oend, and a band clamp at the other - way easier, plus the drum has had gasket material contact cemented on as a backer cushion for the paper. |

I was planning on just wrapping, no velcro, no sticky stuff, my paper around my drum, and raping/wedging/clamping the ends. |

Klingspor for me too. I really like using velcro backed paper on mine. Ron |
