This is a lutz top for a mahogany dred that is a spec guitar for a local store that deals mostly in old Martins. It has taken quite a while to finsih because of other pressing projects. Anyway, I am doing set up tonight and it sounds very promising even with the old worn out strings I use while doing set-up. My question is would you use Med. strings on a Dred with bracing this light? The X-brace is 9/32 wide and 1/2 tall at the joint. The rest of the braces are 1/4 wide. The lutz top is .125 at the soundhole, thinned to about .10 at the edges of the lower bout. I wanted to us light, straight (don't use the P word) bracing and get close to the edge of strong enough, but did I get too close? What do you think, Med or should I tell potential buyers to stick to light gague? Thanks, Paul |

I'm always a big fan of the phosphor bronze custom lights on my larrivee dred...makes the thing play just perfect. -j. |

Regardless of strings, that's mighty pretty work there, Paul! I'd say lights, but I'm chicken. ![]() |

Paul, It's awful hard to say with out knowing the individual top. But for me it's on the thick side and it looks like you have a brace right behind your bridge patch, The guitar is braced pretty lightly, but the extra brace and the thicker top work in your favor for mediums. I'd probably go for it but keep an eye on it. Just my opion here. |

Thanks for the opinions guys, I think I will go with Mediums or a bluegrass set. I'll try to post some pictures this weekend if I have time. Thanks, Paul |
