OK, based on the previous thread, the Mid-Atlantic OLF gathering will take place Saturday, April 21st, 2007, from approximately 9am (or whenever you get here) until 7pm (or whenever you leave). It looks like we could have anywhere from 6-14 people, which my house can certainly accomodate - so I'd say it's "officially" at my home. If the gathering grows any though, I might move it to a very close social club that my wife and I belong to...nice facility, and we'd have tons of room. (Come to think of it, I might move it there anyway.) Also, please bear in mind that my "shop" is quite small, but you are more than welcome to it should you want to share a technique/tool/etc with a friend, or the group. But, if you plan to do this (and I encourage it), do bring whatever tools you need in case I don't have it. In other words, my home is your home, and my shop is your shop...but don't make the assumption I am as tooled up as you might be. I'm probably not. If there's a question about it though, just ask. If you're driving a long distance, or bringing a disinterested spouse, there are several nice, inexpensive hotel alternatives within about 10 minutes from my house (think Hampton, Holiday Inn Express, etc.) If you're concerned about hotel arrangements, or finances are a significant issue, let me know...I might be able to come up with some other alternatives. Spouses are certainly welcome...I did want to make that clear! All snacks/beverages/lunch for Saturday are "on me", except for dinner Saturday night, which I'll assume is every person for him or herself. I'll be putting a definitive set of directions together for your benefit. If you'll email me, I'll get addresses, etc. for you. It's bgreene1(at)carolina.rr.com. Also, if you need some kind of special transportation (if you're flying in, for example, like Todd might do), just let me know and I'll make arrangements to get you from the airport. It's really not an issue. Please (and this is important), please indicate on this thread if you intend to come, or believe strongly that you'll be able to come. I'll be able to plan better that way. OK, so what do I need from you???: 1) Let me know if you believe you're coming. 2) Let me know if you have any special food, or physical issues that I might need to be prepared for. 3) If you plan to demonstrate something to the group, and need tools/work area, please let me know that also. 4) If you need special transportation, or accomodation arrangements, let me know and I'll get phone numbers/rates for you at nearby hotels. 5) If you have some idea for a "guest speaker", or a presentation, or group activities, please tell me. Chances are it's better than what I have in mind, and chances are one of our participants has that particular skill they'd be willing to share. ;-) 6) This is the first time I've done something like this, so if I've forgotten something, for goodness sake, tell me!! OK, that's about it. I'm sure looking forward to it. Let's make this a good one! Bill |

Pencil me in! The 21st of April works for me! I’ll be coming from Ellijay, GA. Looks like the best way for me, is to get to I-85 north as easily as I can. From there, I’ll need some help. My first guitar is not completed, but, I suppose I could bring it anyway? Really looking forward to this! ![]() Robert |

I am going to TRY to come. This may conflict with some vacation plans that my wife has made, (have not checked yet) but I will bring a guitar or two if I do come. Who knows, this may lead to something bigger like LINT or the MICHIGAN luthiers organization. So, all I can say now is tentatively yes. John |

John: About 65 miles...I can make it comfortably in about 1:15 minutes, because it's very quick to I-85 from my house, and a straight shot to Greenville...depends on how fast you drive. ![]() Hope you can make it! Bill |

Bump to the top, and to add: I'll be adding directions to this thread over the weekend. I need to get some Exit numbers, mile markers, number of stoplights, etc. That sort of thing. In the meantime, if ya'll have any questions, just shoot me a PM, or ask them in this thread and I'll be happy to respond. Bill |

Directions: 1)If you're coming from I-85, North or South: Exit 5, Dixon School Road. Turn R, if you're coming from the Charlotte direction. Left if coming up from Spartanburg. Go 3 miles (exactly), which is the intersection of Dixon School Road and Shelby Rd. It'll be the second stoplight. Turn Left on Shelby Rd., and proceed 6.2 miles. You'll go through 2 stoplights. Turn Left onto Dunes drive, into a Community called Woodbridge North (really big sign, you won't miss it). Left onto Quail Hollow. Left onto Pine Lake. 3rd House on the Right. Oh, and I'll probably mark the route somehow on the day of the event. ![]() 2) If you're coming via Highway 74 bypass-East, the only "likely" other route. Go "through" Shelby, and take the "Moss Lake Exit", turning left across the bridge. Go through 1 stop light, 4.1 miles total, and turn left onto Dunes Drive into the Woodbridge North community. Left then onto Quail Hollow. Left onto Pine Lake Drive. 3rd House on the right. If any of you are coming a different route, or method of transportation, just shoot me a PM, or email and I'll give you explicit directions. ALSO, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! I had arranged for Randy Hughes to do a couple of hours of a lecture/show & tell/etc. on fretwork, setups, repairs, etc. and to do a basic repairwork question and answer session. Randy is "world class", but family issues have come up and he is not goint to be able to make the April 21st date. He sends his regrets and says that if we ever do this again, he'd be honored to come speak to us. Does anyone else have an idea of what they'd like to do. It not necessary that we "do" anything, but if someone wants to see, or do, something in particular, maybe I could get that arranged...but I'll need to know. Thanks again. Bill |

Well, as usual, the edit button would be a great help right about now. In the line above which says "Go 3 miles exactly...it'll be the second stoplight"...SHOULD ACTUALLY READ: It will be the 3rd stoplight. Sorry about that. Exit 5, Dixon School Road goes 3 miles, through 2 stoplights, and you would turn LEFT at the 3rd light, onto Shelby Road. Thanks. Bill |

What would it cost to have Dan Erlewine come and do a presentation? |
What would it cost to have Dan Erlewine come and do a presentation?
Oh, THIS is going to be a fun group: Actually, I checked with Dan before getting in touch with Randy. Dan says he no longer does seminars in North Carolina...then mumbled something about "that boy sure has a pretty mouth." ![]() Randy Hughes lives about an hour from here, and I'm working on his website (for free), so he kind of owes me. We've been friends for quite awhile. He would have been a GREAT presenter. His repair work is equal to anybody's, and he's a startlingly good player, too. Oh, and although I don't know Tommy Emmanuel, I'll call him. Anybody got his number???? |

Can I go ahead and register for the free guitar to be given away??? Red |
Author: | Bill Greene [ Mon Apr 09, 2007 4:05 am ] |
Post subject: | |
You can't register for it yet. Registrations for all of the expensive giveaways can only be done on the day of the event itself...as you must be present to win. (And the winner will be the one who best bribes the host.) ![]() I can tell you that if Todd Stock comes down, and IF there is a giveaway, he will win without a doubt as I'm going to bribe him into teaching me how to sharpen my tools, and tune up my planes. ![]() ![]() |

Dear MAGI: It has been suggested that I give my phone number to those who might be making the trip from afar to the MAGI get together...and fine idea that had completely slipped my mind. Because I am somewhat reluctant to give out my cell number on the forum, just shoot me a PM if you'd like my number and I'll make sure to have it close to me that weekend. Then, as was mentioned, should directions be an issue, or someone get lost, or any other issue arise, I can help take care of it. No problem at all! Looking forward to it! Bill |
