After lurking around sites like OLF for years and reading everything I could find, I fianally took the plunge.  Made lots of mistakes both in design and the work, but am happy with the results.  It sounds great. (IMHO)

Honduran mahogany back and sides

Sitka top

Macassar ebony binding and trim

Gaboon ebony fingerboard and bridge

Everything was made from scratch from lumber, but tried to keep design fairly simple on the first one.  Thanks to all that post here.  You didn't know it at the time, but were a big help in figuring it all out.

Welcome to the OLF, Doug.

You know it's not very nice to lie about the number of guitars you've built on your second post.    I swear that looks like it could be your tenth or twentieth guitar! Nice job!

Doug, that's a fine looking guitar, with what appears to be a very good finish.
What did you finish the instrument with?

Thanks for the kind comments.  The finish is McFadden's nitro laquer.

The tuners are Grovers.  I like the vintage look.

The approach to the finish was pretty much by the book nitro.  I added amber tint, again looking for a bit of vintage affect.  I wet sanded from 600 through 1500 and then machine buffed.  The whole cut and buff process took about 4 hours.

I just hate it when you pros pretend to be novice builders!
Sheesh!
This is way too good to be your first.
Very tasteful and clean throughout; I really like your headstock shape.
Thanks for sharing the pics.
Cheers

John

Very nice one Doug! I really hope that my first will look even half that good. What did you use to bend the sides? Did you use a mold as well? Again, great looking guitar. You should be proud!

Yes, I agree with everyone else...you should be posting more stuff. With results like that, we could all apparently learn from your mistakes.

Did you have finishing experience with nitro before you started all this, or were you totally new to it?
