Hi All,

Well, I am the OLF'er who commissioned the Westie inlay from Paul.

First of all, I want to say hi to Paul and apologize for not posting a photo of the inlay yet. I promised to post photos of the finished guitar, not quite done yet.

The idea for this inlay originated from my wife who insisted that she get to choose the inlay, since I bought so many tools, zoot, etc! She said she wanted an image of our dog Shiner and I thought oh no, how in the world am I going to do this!!!???? Well, I contacted Paul and explained what we wanted. He advised us to send a photo and the neck and he would create the inlay. Let me tell you, it is a masterpiece!!!

Here is the original photo

As you can see, he got it spot on! The level of detail included in the inlay is ASTOUNDING; some of it you need 5x to 10x magnification to see. The eyes, ears, nose, reflection in the eye are all different materials. He actually captured the eye's reflection! As Paul said, the inlay really is three dimensional. This is a case where a picture really is worth more than a thousand words.

Working with Paul was an absolute joy; we were at a loss as to how to begin and he took care of us. He is also very generous with any lutherie related questions; he's a fountain of luthier knowledge.

This is my first guitar; I've posted some in progress photos earlier (like last year time to finish it). It's a cedar on walnut OM. The cedar was from an old piece of siding salvaged from our garage. I've just finished applying z-poxy to fill the pores and will begin application of spray can lacquer, per Hesh's finishing schedule described in the archives (thanks for posting that Hesh!)

I just hope the guitar does the inlay justice!

When the guitar is complete I'll post more photos.

Thanks again Paul, great job!

Pete

I'd love to see a photo of the inlay. I only got the original photo.

Look forward to seeing it,
