Guitar jigs Binder/PC7310 compatible?

Hi .Just a shot in the dark here.


Does anyone use the Guitar jigs.com binding cutter with the PC 7310 Lam Trimmer?


 I was attaching my Lam trimmer to my  binding jig and I am only able to get the router bit to stick out 5mm ( and that is with the router bit only in the collet about 5mm( barely in ). . and the depth of cut of the router set to max.


 


I may be doing something wrong but I can't for the life of me figure it out...I would call Mark Kett but I don't want to bother him on the Holiday weekend...and I know this place is open 24/7  365 days a year


 


I'll call Mark next week if no one can help ....Cheers....Back to the Masters golf

Did you take the black plastic base off of the trimmer first?

Hey Red Thanks for the reply!!....Yes I took off the black Base...This is what I have...



This is what she looks like with the router binding bit in ( barely in the collet with the setting of the router all extended) I wouldn't feel safe tightening it up with the small amount of bit shaft secured in the trimmer)..




 


 


This is the bit that Mark sent me with the Jig



 


It has just over 9mm cutting depth


I'm wondering if I should purchase a bit with a longer shaft so that more shaft would fit  into the trimmer. ( maybe with  a wider cutting blade)..


I can't think of what I may be doing to screw this up...any thoughts?

Irwin, I do notice that the lam trimmer in Marks online demo is a makita and I'm pretty sure that the depth of cut on the makita is lower than your PC7310. I see three possible remedies for you.

1. get the makita
2. make the donut lower (stick out less)
3. route a cavity in the back of the jig for your own router to sit in deeper.

Maybe someone else will have another solution, the bit that Mark supplies looks like it has a rather long shaft already, don't know if you can get one longer.

Thanks Rod ...I was thinking those were my options. I hate to alter the jig...I 'm thinking the Easter Bunny may start dishing out Lam trimmers along with chocolate eggs...

I have a makita lam trimmer and I really like it. Does a great job for bindings.

You can never have to many routers

when i bought the jig, i also bought a 9 amp router from sears. only cost $88 over the net. the base and mounting holes barely fit onto the jig base - but they do fit and the rig works great. lots of depth. lots of routing jam.
sorry irwin, but that probably doesn't help you with your binding channels if you've got time this weekend.

Thanks Phil ..for the laminate trimmer to fit it must have the capacity to extend the bit well past the base of the machine, for to fit the jig, it must extend thru 28 mm of jig alone( wood plus the blue thingy) before the bit peeps out...I'm really stumped......maybe a small router would be better...I'll check out Sears...Thanks


I'll also try to find out what model mark Kett uses on the web demo...looks like makita 3700B but not sure....GuitarJigs.ComGuitarJigs.ComGuitarJigs.Com

Just heard from Mark.Kett ..what a great guy..holiday weekend and all...I seemed to be doing everything Ok...he advised using a router to get the needed depth of cut. He said the Makita was compatible but not all Lam Trimmers...oh shucks...another trip to the tool storef...or a nice little router....
