Last weekend I finished the first rosette made with the circle routing jig I built last month. No more sweating bon bons like I did when lowering a spinning flycutter in my drill press down onto that fragile spruce. This was SO easy. Clean cuts, too. ![]() I've always liked the "phantom" trim ring that's implied by the soundhole. Here it is with different lighting. Shows the donkey ab a bit better, before I cut the soundhole. ![]() |

Hesh, It's from donkey teeth! ![]() No, really, it's a softer-colored ab. Very subtle, which I like. I got it from LMI, haven't seen it anywhere else. Their picture and mine don't do it justice. I had intended to use some pretty paua for this koa 000 for my nephew, but decided it didn't suit his taste, mine either for this guitar, which we wanted to be understated. |

Very nice! I too like the smoother look of the Donkey abalone... I like that 'phantom' look too! |

Nice rosette, Pat. Will you use more donkey ab for purfling around the top? Steve |

Thanks, Ken and Coe.
Nice rosette, Pat. Will you use more donkey ab for purfling around the top? Steve
I suggested it, thought it would look nice and subtle, but my nephew declined. Said he's not so into inlay, though he's pretty excited about the bamboo motif I'll have on the headstock. |

Yeah, that will look fine too. That rosette will stand alone nicely. Might I suggest a simple b/w/b purfling that would match the rest of the rosette? It will all tie together beautifully... in a simple sort of way. Steve |

Yup, Steve, that's the plan. |
