Anyone know of a good source for "How To" information on sunbursts? I've got the Stewmac book, but I'm looking for more detailed "Step by Step" information. TIA |

There is a short section with color pictures in Siminoff's "Constructing a Bluegrass Mandolin" book that briefly covers a hand applied / airbrushed 'burst. Not an exhaustive tutorial by any means, but good and to the point. I am not aware of any good sprayed sunburst "how to's". |

If you have any interest in hand application, I'll second Arnt's suggestion of the Siminoff book. His technique limits you to alcohol-based aniline dye, but he does get a beautiful, translucent 'burst. |

The technique works equally well or better with water based dyes in my experience. |

Guitar ReRanch has a decent tutorial on sunbursts, easily adapted to your favorite application method: http://www.reranch.com/basics.htm Scroll down and you'll see several sections on Fender and Gibson 'bursts. Read them both, then practice. It's not too hard. Good luck! |
