Thanks Bob for another killer package in the mail today! For those of you who haven't visited his site in awhile, go check it out. I just received the most awesome set of Mahogany I've ever seen. I also picked out an assortment of bindings. This will be my first steel string build and I'm trying to figure out what combination I like best for the bindings. Also, for those of you more experienced in high figure zoot, what's your guideline for when to use a center backstrip? I'm thinking with the figure and flame of the wood, I don't need a backstrip. What say you all? ![]() ![]() ![]() BTW, what bindings do you all like best with mahaogany? Cheers! John |

Nice score John! That IS some beautiful mahogany. I like the snakewood with a solid dark brown line for a backstrip. ![]() |

I agree with Hesh. No strip. Go with the Maple, IMNSHO. that, with no strip will let that beautiful grain speak. |

Here's my zootman mahogany - I picked up some Osage and some eucalyptus too! Cool stuff. The Osage has that really hard, glassy ring to it. ![]() |
John I'm glad you like that set of mahogany. I like the snakewood with it. Picks up the colors in the mahogany.
Speaking of snakewood binding, your 2nd grade binding has to be the best kept secret out there. I don't know how it could get better with the master grade stuff. Next time I order I'm gonna have to try some of the good stuff--it must be crazy zootelicious if what I have is the 2nd grade. |

I think we'd both be able to finish a few while we wait for Dave S. to update the webpage with the new lattice braced guitar. Even if it takes awhile, I'm really looking forward to this new project, especially with all the vacuum clamping required! John |
