Try this book. I have not read it but it seems like it should be helpful. |

Go to ebay and look for a book by Jason Lollar. It is called "Basic Pickup Winding and Complete Guide to Making Your Own Pickup Winder". If you can get the third edition. This book is out of print and it is fantastic -- there is nothing else like it on the market. Consequently the price on these is very high, you could spend as much as $150 or so for it, but considering all of the trial and error it saves you it is a good investment. |

welcome to the forum alan. i am a confirmed electrical technodope, so will be of no assistance to you. but no doubt someone will come along to offer some useful information soon. and brock, you are a bit behind the times, and the market is bullish! the only copy of lollar's book currently listed on ebay is at $195 with 5+ day to go. sure wish i had a few cases of them stashed away to dole out over a few months. would be a good earner. |

I have a copy of "Animal Magnetism for Musicians". It has a lot of good info in it and explores different kinds of magnetic pickups. You can find more info on it here: http://www.q-tuner.com/book.shtml Here's a great article on constructing an under saddle transducer, which also has schematics for a nice little preamp: http://www.liutaiomottola.com/PrevPubs/Piezo/CoaxTransducer. htm And here's a short article on building a small FET preamp: http://www.till.com/articles/GuitarPreamp/ Last but not least, here's an article on creating a "mint box buffer" which I'm sure could be easily adapted for something on-board: http://scotthelmke.com/Mint-box-buffer.html Hope that helps! |
