Since Hesh is being affected by the moon i figured i'd put in my requests for some tutorials while the gettin' is good. Anyone else so inspired can feel free to post some of their tutorials as well. It is greatly appreciated by us Newbies...

1.) The greatest mystery for me at this time is Chlandi patterns and exactly what do they mean? I don't mean all the nodes and dipole and longpole and northpole stuff, i just want to know what it is your looking for at each frequency and how your using those to tune the top. The best i can figure so far is that your looking for the greatest response from the top at each Freq. No wide dead spots. Does the actual pattern make a difference? Whn you see a particular pattern, how exactly do you trim the braces to change it to the response you want without killing the pattern at other frequecies?

2.) i'd like to see some side bending of some real difficult wood, on a pipe. I can't afford the fancy machines for now so i am planning on doing it all by hand on the cheap. My goal is to do a venitian cutaway on ziricote and i'm getting more nervous every time someone types "Crack!".

3.) It's be nice to hear some sound clips of peoples guitars....

Thanks for everything that's been posted so far. It's been invaluable!

Try this web page:

As for the cutaway, well ziricote will be a challenge. Thin the bend area down a bit more than normal, but I'd still try to save up the $$$ for a bending jig. It shouldn't cost more than a broken set of ziricote!

CRACK!!!

Seriously, follow Hank's advice and consider a friendlier wood for a first guitar, especially if you want to bend a cutaway on a pipe.   I am building my first ziricote instrument now so take the advice for what it is, but this wood just WANTS to crack! And I have a nice bender and everything... Save the ziricote until either you have more experience or you have better equipment.

LOL... yep. I am just calling my first two or three "prototypes", since i told my wife i was only going to build one guitar. But they are cheapies being made from big box store wood, just to get the feel.

I happen to be blessed in that where i live there are a couple of well known luthiers and a mile from the cottage where i vacation is a decent luthier school.. So when i actually start to build my "Guitar", depending on my comfort, i have a couple of places to run for help...
