On my second build that I finished last November the bridge partially came off the soundboard. The interesting thing is that it lifted on the bass side wing and about 1/2 the backside,on the bass side. I know normally it tends to lift on the back. I'm starting to wonder if the top sunk on that side. I used HHG, has anyone used fishglue? Clinton |

I have a question..... did you radius sand the back side of the bridge before you glued it up? If so, how did you sand it and did both wings lay down on the top before you glued it up? |

Well then I better keep to familiar ground:HHG & Titebond. I did radius the bridge and caul and I thought it layed on the soundboard nicely. I just thougt it was weird to have lifted in the manner it did.  Clinton ; ; ; ;

I've used fish glue on well over a hundred bridges without problem, but other than ease of use I certainly would never argue it to be any better than hide glue. If the glue was good quality fresh hide glue than it was not the cause of the problem. Extreme humidity changes, collapsing or serious belly in the top, poor fit and preparation, or perhaps cooling and gelling of the glue before full clamping would be the most common causes of premature lifting. |
