Lets see if anyone can name what the binding and end graft are made of. *Steve Kinnaird is disqualified, because he has some. But we still love him! |

Looking good, Matt. I've never seen anything like that. Looks like some heavily spalted something or other. I liked Billy's answer. Ron |

I have some wood out in the shop that look just like it, well almost. Its kinda hard to see it in the pictures. But the stuff I have came for pallets that I, ahem, acquire from a South American importer. I know I have score mahogany from them a bunch of other really cool looking wood. One looked kinda like balsa, but with a more distinct grain. Others, well, there has been a lot of different woods come out of the pallets. I'm make a box out of the stuff that looks like your binding. So, I'm guessing palletwood. |

[QUOTE=Chansen]I think it's MDF... Naw, man, MDF is much plainer looking than that, Gotta be Plywood - I'd say probably that HD stuff - You know, that 7 ply, sandply stuff - It looks just like that under A good FP finish, particularly when you get a good QS piece on the edge like that... |

Yeah, that's a good idea, suing guitar builders. That will get me rich for sure. ![]() Did you find the Ironwood hard to work. I worked with some fresh from the desert when I was in AZ. It had so much silca in it that it sparked when I cut it. YUCK! |
