I have a custom built telecaster I'm repairing  The neck seems like its not deep enough in the pocket.  Anyone know the right measurement from the neck surface ( or last fret top) to the deck surface? I dont have another one here at the shop.  it's not a typical setup measurement.  Thougth I would ask before I decide myself.

well .. if its custom built, the neck and its pocket could be anything really ... like mine !!!!

In general, the fretboard and frets need to just be clear of the guitars top for stock style tele bridge to set up well. Its possible the if the fretboard extends over the guard, then it should just clear that, but the saddles woudl sit a touch higher...
