tinkering with the idea of offsetting the rosette from being concentric rings around the soundhole. I mocked these up on solid orks. it's no more difficult than a standard rosette...... It'll just take a little longer..... whatcha think? ![]() ![]() doing it for real I'd use contrasty woods, maybe walnut & snakewood and purfle inside & out with maple each ring before cutting the next. |

Martin, I think if the design was incorporated into other elements of the guitar somehow, other than just the rosette, it might be fine. Looking at it as -JUST- the rosette, I have a hard time resolving the design in my eye. I'm thinking it would not be cohesive with the rest of the guitar. But HEY! Whadda I know ![]() I will say this, Kudos for stepping out side the box, or in this case the circle, to try something different! |

One of my students is doing something similar - it took us a bit to draw it out, then measure and figure out where the two pivot holes needed to go, and what the radii where .. check here to see progress of the build, and you can see the rosette - its a bookmatched recon stone webbed turquoise, with blk.blu/blk lines and an outer ring of paua ... http://picasaweb.google.com/swainsong/TheRaven |

yup Hesh 3 holes and Lance I guess the fret dots could maybe carry the same sort of eclipse motif? or maybe an outer ring around the whole thing to round it all up again....... |

I like the idea of the outer ring. Can we see what that looks like? |

I like it as it is. Perhaps with an armrest to match the rosette, to create balance in the design. Dot markers would be a little OTT. Keep it simple, and clean-cut. |

Yeah and maybe a recliner to go with the arm-rest, huh? Maybe if the lower circle was bigger than the upper circle, it would mimic the shape of the guitar enough to blend differently. Or, maybe not! Hard to tell without seeing the whole thing. |
http://picasaweb.google.com/swainsong/TheRaven
Hey, that's pretty slick! I would have liked it better if he'd used Koa instead of recon stone, though, so it would tie in with his back/side wood. Very creative, in any case! ![]() |

Yeah, I can see that Carleton .. but we do have the blue theme in the purfling all round, plus the fret markers will be scalloped recon turq diamonds with 3mm paua dots in them .. I think it wil be one cool guitar all done up .. plus its a multiscale, 13 fret 25.5 to 26.5 as well, and a slot head to boot. |

It is a west coast raven theme, after all, so I had to get pacific blue in there somewhere. And the zircote fretboard looks like those ripples in the sand on a b each when the tide is going out. |

Greg, I like the turquoise. I think you matched the shell awesomely! Martin, your idea for a rosette is really cool also! |

Great idea. I think it needs an inner and outer border, with the same material running between the two different woods, inside the rosette. Push the envelope! Yeah. Alan. |
