I originally built this for the Newport guitar fest, but due to the fact that I SET IT ON FIRE i had to make a new neck and replace the top. This guitar was a journey for me to say the least.

thanks for looking.

Cool guitar! How did you set it on fire ??

Matt the guitars you did bring to Newport were very nice. This one looks like it would have complimented them nicely!

So...what is the story of the fire?

Matt,

Very nice guitar. The more I build the more I believe in the course of "fate" that you are destined to follow and so don't get as upset with these things as I used to. Usually they teach you more in the long run but they do cost money

I presume that this is not the normal method for doing a sunburst

Nice looking guitar Matt!

What kind of finish did you put on it?

Really beautiful job, Matt!

Is that donkey abalone? Nice and subtle.

Finish? B & S wood? Fire? Tell us!

Nitro finish + heat lamp = poof!

i had noticed that my bridge had creeped a bit when i glued it on, so I decided to remove and reset it. I was distracted for only a few seconds, and completely scorched the top. The pain was esquisite!

but it gave me the opportunity to make a rosette that i like a lot better. The back and sides are brazilian, the new top is adirondack, and the pearl is a nice batch of green abalam, which had more clear and pink than green. thanks for asking.

I will always be a student of this craft.

Hey Matt, nice guitar. While the old top looked nice, the new one really pops. That's about as close to perfection as most people get buddy. Very fine!!!

Matt, that is a nice guitar.

So, did you change the bridge too? Looks like the original may have been a pyramid and the new one a belly bridge. I assume the original bridge got torched too?

Wow, very cool Matt. Nice save by the way! You're right, the new top does look better, and I like the new rosette better too. I'm another big fan of your work! Thanks for sharing.

Obviously, Matt, you weren't aware of the "no flaming" policy here at the OLF. I trust it won't happen again.

Wow, that had to hurt. Worse than leaving the iron on your favorite shirt! You sure got a fine guitar out of it, though. NICE work.

Nice guitar Matt.
I once bubbled a finish with a heat lamp, but you did one better!
Bet it sounds great.

NO NO NO, Matt. If we've told you once, we've told you a thousand times: The flame is IN the wood grain, not on top of it!

Nice save, though. Does the guitar come with a "history sheet"?

Beautiful guitar, Matt, and just a fantastic regrouping of your strength. Not sure I could have persevered through a re-do like that.

You are building a nice grouping in my pictures folder!

C'mon Matt, we all know you were doing a 'Hendrix' stage act

It's a class guitar Matt !

Your mishap must have been very painful . Congrats on your excellent recovery .

I like the nice clean lines and particularly the scratch plate shape.

It certainly lights my fire
