Hey, anybody know where I can get some jade fret markers. They would be the size of a cabashon, 6x8 mm x 1-2 mmthick. I used malachite on a git I built and I liked it. Jade would be nice on the one I'm, making now. Alan.

I used Jade for side dot markers on a guitar, bad,
You cant see them in low light, and you can't drill them out!

Just a friendly bump...

Might work in maple, if that's what you're using.

Hi again. I have a nice piece of cocobolo, for the fretboard, and I was looking for some light green jade, not the dark kind. Hey! ,I could put some led lights under them!  A.

Instead of actual jade, you might want to try recon stone instead. You can have a look here for several type of recon stone that are available.

Good luck!

Years ago, I did metalworking and one of hte things I learned was to carve out designs in metal and then fill them with epoxy that was thinned with colored lacquer/ This gave a "Gem" type of quality that almost looked like it had been inlayed in the metal.

Has anybody ever thought about trying this type of inlay in wood?

If not, I kinda feel the urge to try it.... just to see what happens

I think Russ has the right idea. True jade is an extremely hard substance. You will not be able to scrape or sand it down flush with the fb using any sort of "traditional" luthier's method. Diamond sandpaper? That might work.

There are other types of stone that look similar to jade. Soapstone, for one, is pretty soft (relatively speaking), and can be found in a variety of jade-like colors.

Best,

Michael

Lighter green 'Jadite' is not as hard.

Russ has the right idea reconstituted stone is the way to go. There are many shades of jade-ish green available It is even available in pore in and harden media for perfect fit to channels.
