I do the same pattern as you, but scallop my braces. Do you use a butt joint on the tone bar joints?

I'll try to post a pic of my next top when I get back to accoustic building. right now I am working on a Les Paul electric.

Looking good Hesh.

I'm doing an Engelmann OM top at the moment with parabolics.

The backs and sides are Hard Rock Maple so I'm expecting it to be quite bright.

The top is sitting at .011 but I'm planning to reduce the lower bout edges when the top is on.

I'll get some pics later in the day and post them for a comparison.

This OLF #2 top is Sitka, one of the nicest I've ever had in my hands. Braced it off with the Adirondack Spruce that's been aging in my shop since 2001. The bridge patch is juglans nigra. Scallops on the main x and tone bars.

Can't wait to hear it. Oh, I probably never will since it's going to OHIO!

I know your've probably already seen mine , (but you did encourage us to post pics )

It looks to be fairly similar to yours except for the third tonebar ( 12 string). Yep, I too feather the tonebar and fingerbraces to nothing where they meet the Xbrace .

Here's an older one. I have lightened up some since (!) espescially the tone bars. The peaks are much lower, and my rear X brace legs feather out before the linings like the tone bars. I now also feather the brige patch "north and south".

Oh, and the spots on the inside are numbers where I note the thickness in all these points. The top's perimeter is thinner than the middle.

No, it's regular old Indian . I would like to try Honduran ( if I had some ). I tryed Rosewood this time (rather than the more neutral maple ),as I read where some expert states that rosewood can give more of a shimmering tone , and I thought it may suit this 12.
I guess the most important thing is to have a patch that won't go splitting on you , and is hard wearing for the string ball ends .
Feathering the brace ends is no big deal. I do, however glue them on whith a slight angle cut on the brace ends to make it easier to feather away without marring the Xbrace ( put a piece of plastic between the Xbrace and brace end for protection ).
Here's an in progress shot to show what I mean. I have already started ramping the tonebars here with a chisel , but check out the end of the soundhole braces.




You might also try an A frame setup next time Hesh. I'll bet your not disappointed.

Hesh I was wondering about the dimensions of your parabolics.I`m going to try similar bracing on a parlor guitar that I`m building for my nephew.I want to make them as light as possible since the guitar is small.Kind of like right on the verge of exploding.I really liked the picture you posted of your l-oo a while back.Beautful job on the bracing.Do you just sort of wing it or work from a pattern?

Um, would that perhaps be 5/16" wide an 5/8" tall? Because 5/32" is less than 4mm, so about twice as wide as a side is thick....
