Here's my back bracing patter for my first scratch built guitar. I decided I wanted to try an X brace on the back. Do you guys think I went too heavy on the bracing?

The center of the X is 1" tall.

What's the back thickness?
I like the extra kerfs in the linings-NICE touch !

I like to keep my backs as stiff as i can make them without adding weight!!
If you have your top braced(voiced) right this should work fine.

It looks real good from here Joe!
I hope to see it at one of the NEL meetings.

Really nice neat and attractive work there Joe.

I too, like the extra kerfs at the waist, giving you a better fit around that area . ( mental note taken )

If you were after a firm back , you certainly got one .

Great work Joe

Nice work Joe.

I reckon it'll be fine but I agree with Craig it'll be stiff.

As Michael said bear in mind the weight as it will accumulate fairly rapidly as you build.

The pic below is one I'm working on at present and the height of the braces at the X is 9/16. It's Hard Rock Maple and it weighs, at this stage, nearly 100 grams more than the mahogany one behind it.

Cheers
