I am replacing the binding on an early 50's Epiphone Regent that is blonde. She is a project as I am a hobby repair guy. she needed other work.  Anyway, the binding I have is a little too white, so how do I get an amber color - stew mac dyes? Then if I do, I do not want to spray the binding and have to deal with the body. I'd like to just brush the lacquer on so as to be minimally invasive. Does that work?

Been there done that ... you need to tint the finish with dye to get the colour to match. I used the vintage amber in lac to do a 50s Epi archtop a couple years back. You can just brush or drop fill as requried, and then flat sand it afte a couple weeks to be able to buff.

Here's a tutorial from Frank Ford about fixing old bindings. Here
He uses a sun-tinted lacquer that he makes.
