Well, I'm in. Offically. I just placed a few orders to begin my strat. I'm putting this in off topic because I don't know that it actually has anything of value to add to the discussion ![]() In the new year's projects thread at the beginning of the year, I wrote, "I don't really need a strat, right?" Well, I was wrong. I'll admit, I spent a few hours seriously considering on the Fender Custom Shops available from Wildwood Guitars (http://www.wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/fender/ custom_strat.php), but decided to do it my own unique way after all. So, in a few months, I'll have my sorta-strat: - Alder jazzmaster body - Vintage-style Callaham strat hardware - Lollar blackface strat pickups (most likely) - Birdseye 21 fret neck, clay dots, rosewood board - Most likely a fender style sunburst (something I don't know how to do). And I think I may do an india-ink drawing directly into the wood on the headstock in place of a logo. But what do I do with my tele? ![]() |

i'm putting a tele (esquire) together with 3 s/c pickups - 2 hidden under the scratchplate. i always wanted a nashville tele with a hidden middle p/up - then a friend just bought one of the new $$$'s stealth tele's which took it to the final conclusion...and its pretty cool in my book, although i think the fender version could be imporved on i'm sorry to say. why not try putting a midle p/up in your tele first? put in a 5 way and you're close to strat - you should be able to get the position 2 + 4 that give it a strat tone anyway? having said all that i still lke a tele to be a tele and a strat to be a strat! the search goes on..... |

Well, because I already placed my orders ![]() question. Strat pickups and tele pickups are voiced quite differently. In fact, I've had a hayride of a time choosing the pickups and am still only 90% sure. I'm going to call Jason Lollar with specific questions. |

[/QUOTE] its the quest for the grail, no doubt about it! the tele with strat p/ups doesnt have the full-on strat tone (close but no cigar) - its a bit of a thing i'm making just for the hell of it - it'll never match a nice strat, but its got its own thing. i cant help wanting one of everything ![]() i havent heard the lollars p/ups but a friend has just aquired some -maybe i'll get a set for this tele thing - let me know what you think of em |
