i ment to stick it at the end of my last "what ive been up to" but the thread's been closed. any way, Claire's post motivated me to share those pics with you guys and gals. i was getting this guitar ready fot finishing and wiped it with naphta,looking for the odd glue stain or against the grain sanding scratches. i took some pics and i hope youll like'em: 
hopefully itll recieve its high gloss poly finish tomorrow morning. have a good week y'all! Udi. |

thanks! yep, that camatillo is so dense it takes a very fine polish...gotta get myself a few more sets of that. |

Gorgeous! I love that camatillo ...how is it to work with? Is it oily like cocobolo?

Chris, ive yet to work with cocobolo(only bindings) so i cant quite compare the two. i can say that it is heavy - much heavier than indian rosewood. its also pretty dense. i havent experienced any problem gluing/bending it,BUT it did completely "flatten" a brand new sanding belt which was used on the thickness sander to take it down to workable dimensions. |

so ive started applying the finish. i usually use nitro but decided to try polyurethane on this one. ive used a matte polyurethane finish from and italian brand called "ilva" a lot in the past to finish furniture and liked it a lot. so i called the local "ilva dude" and convinced him to give me a free sample of their highest gloss poly + the appropriate hardener and thinner. it looks promising...

Ray, the purflings is just the common B/W/B . but with the black being "swallowed" by the ebony on one side and by the dark rosewood on the other side, the white really pops! i m currently working on a similar guitar only using honduras rosewood for B&S and caspian spruce for the top. |
