Does anyone know where I can get brown herringbone purflings (preferably the medium style). The color that I am going for is something medium brown (about the mahogany color).

I know I can have Gurian make it, but I need it for one guitar so I hate to buy a whole truck load of it.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi Brock,

I wanted some custom purfling too so I thought I would try to make some and it's really not that hard. The nice thing about it too is that you can make the purfling out of the other accent woods on the guitar. I am working on a EIR with Mad Rose binding and Satinwood/yellow veneer purfling so I made a backstrip with those same woods.

It takes a little time, but it is really satisfying when those little details all match.

That is really pretty purfling. Why not post your technique.

There is a good tutorial on making herringbone purflings on MIMF, by Mick Lazar. I think you need to register to find it--either in their library or on some other page where they index articles of interest.

Thanks. I remember seeing a tutorial on MIMF, but of course couldn't remember who posted it ...
