Okay, I have this old Harmony guitar with a slot head. I've never fooled with a slot head guitar before.

So, when putting on the strings how do you orient the tuners for tightening? Sounds simple enough, but it was weirding me out that they could all actually turn the same direction to tighten the string.

So what way is correct?

I put it so they all tighten the same.

That would be right.  Clockwise on the knob tightens the string which runs over the top of the horizontal post.  I have also seen stuff that says always wind toward the hardware, and never toward the inside of the head.  This reduces binding.

That would be clockwise from the top of the head.  Counterclockwise from the bottom.

Lucked out and got it right then. It was just so strange turning all the downward point knobs the same direction. Just so used to changing directions on the plank headstock.....

I always install them by remembering to have the gears pointing toward the nut.
