Hi - firstly - please move/ remove this post if its not really supposed to be here!

I originally posted this on the Taylor AGF, but i've kind of been persuading myself to use rather than sell..but i could use some advice before i make my mind up.

i have a Taylor 8 series neck that i either want to sell or use...obviously use would be preferable!
the chances of finding an 8 series body seem very very slim (i've been looking for a long time now) but i thought i'd ask here for ideas and inspiration. i dont really want to dismantle the thing the use the fingerboard because its too beautiful as it is, plus as its taylor it really has to go onto a taylor body (not sure about the legal side - if there even is one - but it would feel wrong on any other body - unless i made one)
its standard bolt on, etc nothing unusual.

is it an older style butt joint bolt on with the glued fb extension or one of the newer bolt ons with the bolted tenon and fb extension?

the older style neck would be easy to attach to a body built for a butt joint bolt on, again a straight forward operation.

making the necessary mortices to matchup to the current neck joint would a lot more complicated. getting them to be as tight as the originals without a cnc and the original code is probably close to impossible.

i believe the new style taylor neck is patented so there may be legal issues using it on a non-taylor body. actually even building the body with the required mortices would probably be a patent infringement.

i haven't heard any tales of taylor pursuing any patent infringement suits but i know gibson and fender surely has.

i totally agree the new joint would be out of the question, its the older style i have.
I feel a bit odd about it as i wouldn't want anyone to really see it even as i wouldnt for a second want anyone to think that i was trying in anyway at all to pass the new guitar off as a taylor. its just occurred to me that anyone reading this may have had alarm bells ringing about that! we've all seen those kind of shenanigans before...nasty!
its just that kind of 'sofa' guitar thing that i'd like to use it for....maybe i should just sell it to a guy who needs a new neck for his 814.

Bob Taylor has too much class to sue anybody for adapting his ideas, unlike the people running some other guitar companies... The Taylor guys are about as luthier-friendly as a company can get.
