I finally finished my second acoustic last month, after a bit of struggle I must say, but it was all a valuable learning experience, and the guitar came out pretty nice, if a bit over done in some ways. It isn't perfect, but it sounds great. I hope these picures upload okay.


Oh well I guess that's all I can get now. All the other ones I resized are still too big. Maybe I'll get them smaller later. My old computer was much easier.

I doubt I'll ever do another headstock like that, if I can help it. A bit of experimentation there.



I got a little too happy with the snake wood too, but I guess it was fun. Many pieces from my figured woods scrap pile were used too, including spalted maple, bird's eye maple binding, zebra wood, black acacia, cherry (in the rosette), koa, ebony, purple heart, rosewood and iron wood (I think). The rosette was pretty improvised and I never intended it to be so big, but it was my first. I experimented with some scrap ivory pieces I bought from a guy who had old piano key cut offs. I epoxied them together and shaped a nut and saddle. They seem to work nicely. I could always replace them if their glue joints become a future problem.
The guitar has a big bell like sound and really rings, especially in middle strings. The Myrtle has great clarity. I would have liked it a little lighter in weight, but it's meant to be the substantial guitar it is. Not for the faint hearted I guess you could say.
Please forgive me if I don't answer some posted questions. I will leave for Europe on Monday and am scrambling to get ready.

Love the inlay work on the headstock too. I can tell you spent a lot of time on it.

And whaddaya mean, you doubt you'll do it again? Looks great to me, difficulty be hanged! (Unless part of your approach will be to do a different design for each head? That would be cool.)

Thanks guys. I was reading the thread about someone who doesn't like rosettes and it kind of made me feel self conscious. But I'm definitely happy about how it came out.
